GLIMMERGLASS SUPPORTS 400 GB/s DATA TRAFFIC AT AMS-IX

Intelligent Optical Switches handle record traffic at world’s largest public Internet Peering Exchange

Hayward, CA.  April 22, 2008 – Glimmerglass, leading provider of Intelligent Optical Switches, today announced the shipment of its 20th system to AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange), the world’s largest public Internet Peering Exchange, in support of peak traffic rates exceeding 400 gigabits per second.   Peering is a cost-neutral arrangement between two IP networks to exchange Internet traffic in order to reduce costs and provide more direct routing of that traffic

AMS-IX has relied on Glimmerglass Intelligent Optical Switches since 2004 to connect bandwidth between hundreds of international network connections, to maintain and upgrade software and hardware in multiple peering centers and to prevent service outages.

“With high definition video transfers and other high bandwidth Internet applications continuing to grow in popularity, we expect our traffic growth each year to continue in the 70 percent range,” said Job Witteman, chief executive officer, AMS-IX.  “We could be running close to an unparalleled terabit per second by the end of 2009.”

Currently AMS-IX has around 300 connected members on over 500 ports. "We will continue to look towards Glimmerglass to answer our network monitoring and protection needs in response to growing demand for higher speed connections and to service our members beyond the 400 GB/s milestone," said Henk Steenman, chief technical officer for AMS-IX.  "For years, Glimmerglass has consistently delivered highly reliable solutions at an attractive price. Their innovative ability to execute as promised has enabled us to architect an extremely robust, technically advanced and high performing Internet Exchange Point."

“We congratulate the AMS-IX team on this amazing achievement.  AMS-IX has always been at the forefront of innovative networking solutions and we look forward to continuing to support their record-setting growth,” said Robert Lundy, CEO, Glimmerglass.
