GLIMMERGLASS JOINS IN THE FORMATION OF THE ADVANCED FIBER CONNECTIVITY AND SWITCHING FORUM Joins With Leading Carriers and Suppliers to Advance the Adoption
Hayward, CA – June 16, 2008 – Glimmerglass, leading provider of Intelligent Optical Switches, announced today that it is a charter member of the Advanced Fiber Connectivity and Switching Forum (AFCS). AFCS is a coalition of industry-leading service providers, optical switch vendors, network infrastructure providers and manufacturers including Verizon, AT&T, NTT, Tyco, ADC and others. The group was formed to accelerate the adoption and deployment of optical switching and advanced fiber connectivity solutions into networks worldwide. Since 2002, customers have deployed over 35,000 ports of Glimmerglass advanced photonic cross-connect equipment to remotely manage light paths in their fiber networks. More recent customers have recognized the physical layer as the last unmanaged part of their network, and the final obstacle to ‘lights-out’ management. As a result, recent deployments have been growing in scale, both in terms of the number of sites and their geographical breadth. “We have been very pleased with rapid growth over the last two years in the telecom usage of our optical switches,” said Robert Lundy, Glimmerglass CEO. “We look forward to working with our colleagues in this stellar group of companies to further accelerate this trend.” About Glimmerglass ###
