GLIMMERGLASS PROVIDES INTELLIGENT OPTICAL SWITCHES

FOR ASIA’S PREMIER INTERNET EVENT

 Shows GMPLS control of 40Gb/s Data Streams between Core IP Routers - the Future Internet

Tokyo, Japan.  June 8, 2006 – Glimmerglass, leader in optical switching for the heart of the new optical Internet, announced that it is providing Intelligent Optical Switches for ShowNet at Interop Tokyo.  The switches will be used to support 40 Gb/s light paths between a core router in the ShowNet Network Operation Center (NOC) and another core router located 40km away in the NTT Otemachi building, supplying half of the Internet connectivity for ShowNet. 

ShowNet includes a major demonstration of the ability of GMPLS to dynamically setup and manage 40Gb/s light paths.  Two Glimmerglass Intelligent Optical Switches, integrated with GMPLS control functionality, rapidly establish massive bandwidth connections between core routers to redirect traffic, reducing network congestion.

ShowNet is a highlight of Interop Tokyo, connecting all exhibitors through a full-scale NOC, connected to the Internet.  Historically it has featured some of the industry’s newest, most powerful and reliable technologies.  ShowNet enables exhibitors to demonstrate and verify the workability and interoperability of their products, offering buyers an authentic experience of commercially available solutions within a high-speed, heterogeneous network environment.
