Signals monitoring and analysis demand the highest possible optical signal quality over a wide range of conditions. The use of pure optics with no electrical conversions enables Glimmerglass Intelligent Optical Switches to deliver the best possible performance — independent of signal type. Glimmerglass solutions are non-blocking, deliver very low optical insertion loss (typical 1.7 dB), support a wide range of signals on single mode fiber (1260 nm–1630 nm) and operate with ultra low input power (-35 dBm).

Glimmerglass Intelligent Optical Switches have the highest signal density in the industry. Up to 190 fibers (95 x 95) are supported in just two rack units (3.5”) and up to 380 fibers (190 x 190) in 4 rack units. Weighing only 20 to 38 pounds, power consumption ranges from 35 to 80 watts and requires no special cooling.
Glimmerglass switches provide a full, non-blocking crossconnect. In milliseconds a fully transparent lightpath can be created between any signal input and any output. Specialized analysis equipment can be easily and rapidly connected to any of a multitude (up to 190) of input signals. Combined with Photonic Multicasting, this provides unprecedented analysis flexibility.
With Photonic Multicasting, one input can be optically split into multiple perfect copies and each copy can be connected to a separate output. The Photonic Multicasting units are offered as either a switched or a dedicated resource. As a switched resource, any input can be selected as the Multicast input, and the Multicast outputs can be directed to any switch outputs. All reconfigurations can be performed in milliseconds and remotely. Photonic Multicasting options include 1 to 2, 1 to 4, 1 to 6, and 1 to 8 signals.
Control options for Glimmerglass Intelligent Optical Switches include a standard software control interface (TL1) and a graphical user interface for simple point-and-click control. Glimmerglass customers have integrated their control software to our products in less than a day.
